Philippine water dump, kill 750 tons of fish


(Manila, 30 AP) a sudden drop in water temperature over the weekend the Philippines, resulting in the Thar lake, near Manila, more than 750 tons of dead fish, now the smell filled the surrounding areas.

Philippine Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said that since last Friday, the Thar lake near Manila has more than 750 tons of fish died, causing a number of cities and towns dependent on fisheries economy has been hit.

Scientists said that the advent of the rainy season led to a sudden drop in temperature, reducing the oxygen content of the lake.

Most of the dead fish are milkfish (milk fish) and the African carp (Tilapia), the lake shore breeding  for commercial purposes.

One of the hard-hit town of Talisay, Mayor Zenaida said: "Too many dead fish, the fishermen come ashore with the boats fishing them, but the smell of decay may pose a health risk. "

She said health officials are trying to dispose of dead fish, but because there is not enough suitable burial sites, many dead fish are still exposed to the air.

Volcanologist, said the recent events and Taal volcanoes unrelated to the volcano in the middle of the lake, the most deadly in the Philippines one of the 23 active volcanoes.
